Simeran's Candle was duly incorporated as a Michigan non-profit corporation on August 10, 2011. An application was also made with the State to do business under the assumed name of Special Ministries Foundation. Concurrently we began the application process for 501(c)3 federal non-profit tax status with the United States Internal Revenue Service. That process has not been completed, but we are well within the allowable twenty-seven month period to do so.

However, after our best efforts to reestablish support for Special Ministries in Kenya, we have only had limited success. Our own resources, along with those we have been able to raise from you, have not been sufficient to meet the needs in Kenya.

Consequently, our board has made the difficult decision that Simeran's Candle/ Special Ministries Foundation is not a viable endeavor. With this letter, our organization will cease and desist from all activity. Rest assured that all of your donations have been distributed for your intended purposes to the office of Special Ministries in Nairobi. Although our attorney and CPA firm are deliberating about the official tax status of your past contributions, it is advisable that you not claim them as tax deductible on your federal income tax return.

Personally it is heartbreaking to see this door closing, but I know that the Lord has used our work for good, and his purposes will continue. Thank you for your past support, and we hope you will continue to support the work of Special Ministries in Kenya.
